Samsung HDTV says check signal cable when plugged into laptop?

I have a samsung netbook n150 and a samsung 32inch HDTV (it says 2009) on the back.
I have tried connecting these two together using a vga cable. I can see the display on the tv screen however it comes flashing up as check signal cable. How can i get rid of this from the tv screen? I have tried adjusting my resolution to no effect. I have also searched on the internet to find no concrete answer.

Any help is much appreciated.

Get an hdmi cord…the connection is way better and so is the pic…it costs a lil more but its all we use….
