Should you get a desktop, laptop or netbook for your business?

Many business owners wonder what type of computer would be the best for their company. Whether they have a large corporation or a small business, they have the choice of desktop, laptop, or netbook. Which one is best for business? That is determined by the needs of the business.

The desktop has been the standard computer for businesses for many years. It tends to be the most affordable and is also the most customizable. If the employees work in offices and at desks, desktop computers make the most sense. They are more ergonomic than laptops, so it is easier for the workers to be more productive. They also are more powerful than laptops in the same price range, so for businesses that do graphic design or use resource intense applications, a desktop is necessary.

In many cases, however, a Laptop Computer makes more sense for a business. There are many laptops that are made specifically for business users, such as the Dell Inspiron. A Dell laptop for business is a good choice if any employees work outside of the office. For example, if an employee works occasionally from home or gives sales presentations to clients, a laptop would be the best choice for business. Laptop computers also take up less room than desktops so they work well in places where space is tight. They tend to have slightly less storage space and processing power than desktops, but in most settings they will be able to perform the same tasks as a desktop. Most come standard with DVD players and webcams.

Netbooks are gaining in popularity, but they aren’t about to replace laptop or desktop computers. Netbooks are the cheapest of the three options, but they usually can’t do all of the computer tasks an employee would need to do. They do, however, have their place. If a worker travels often or works from a home office, a netbook computer would allow them to stay in touch with the office easily. They are lightweight so they can easily be tucked inside a briefcase and be used on trains or aeroplanes. They have little storage space, but this might not be a problem as more places start to use cloud computing. These netbooks usually lack things such as DVD drives, but they are good for simple tasks such as word processing and emails.

For business owners to decide which type of computer is best for them, they need to consider what their needs are. While desktops remain the standard in most situations, some companies will do well to switch to laptops or netbooks. For other companies, a combination of these will best fill their computing needs.
